A GREAT CALM

Many trials in my life have riveted me to the core. Jim would say, “Mom, come on, don't let this destroy you. Where is your faith?”

He reminded me that the Lord strengthens us during times of difficulty.

When Jim died, I felt that the Lord had placed me in the midst of a tremendous storm at sea. During the most horrific of times, I am able to say that my faith in the Lord has become more resolute.

My understanding is limited concerning why the Lord allowed my son to die, but it is not for me to challenge what the Lord ordains. God is sovereign.

He calmed the raging storm inside my heart, and for His peace I am grateful.

And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.
But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”
Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”

And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

  1. We fear the wind and the sea will sink us to the bottom of the depths. He calms the wind and the sea, and sets the bounds of the waters to come up no further, so that we may marvel and ask, "Who does this thing?" and perchance fear Him who created the wind and the sea, and gives life but for an appointed number of days. And when He asks, "How is it you have no faith?" it is an invitation to ask, "Lord, give me of your faith!"

Yes, the Lord cares that we are perishing. For this reason He came into the world. Some day we will understand how little we perceived of His care, even while we esteemed and saw that He cares very much for us. We will come to understand even the hard things that perplex us now.

May our Lord bless you richly, Angelina.

And Jesus said to them:

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one.” John 10:27-30
